There are different types of plywood and different brands of plywood. Here read the in-depth details about it.
Plywood
Plywood is a man-made wood – so technically it is not actually a natural wood, but rather is an engineered wood product. It is made up of a wood veneer and is made by pasting three or more plies of wood together with some sort of adhesive. Plywood may seem like a straightforward material, but there are actually many variations of a seemingly simple wood board. Ply refers to the number of layers and the resulting thickness of a plywood board. Some projects need thicker boards, while other needs thinner pieces instead. Each layer, called a wood veneer, is glued to another layer to create the number of plies needed.
Types of Ply:-
1. Softwood:-
Soft plywood is made from pine, redwood, or cedar, among other softwoods. They are mainly used for the exterior frame, roof sheathing and subflooring. It can also be used for sheds, temporary flooring, and shelving. While it’s a strong material, it lacks the necessary weather-resistant qualities for outdoor work. So it is not recommended for outdoor use.
2. Hardwood:-
Hardwood Plywood is a type of plywood having a face and back veneer of hardwood just contrary to a softwood like pine, spruce and cedar etc. It is much more stable in comparison to solid wood, and easily available in different grades. The price of hardwood plywood is always an economical option than traditional wood. It can be used for furniture, packing cases, sporting equipment, musical instruments, and other items that require strong frames.
It’s one type is Birch plywood. We import this type of plywood in India.
3. Aircraft plywood:-
Aircraft plywood is among the highest-grade, most durable kind you can find. This wood uses hardwoods, like mahogany or birch, to create an incredibly strong finished piece that can also resist heat and moisture. It uses hardwoods to create strong boards that can resist heat and moisture. Aircraft plywood is made of very thin veneers, which keep it light and flexible while providing significant strength.
4. Marine plywood:-
Marine plywood is superior-quality hardwood plywood that is specially treated using paint, preservatives or varnish to resist water damage. It is formulated for water submersion and is ideal to be used in shipbuilding, boats, lake platforms, decks, bathrooms, and kitchens, etc.
Grades of Plywood:-
1. MR Grade:-
MR grade plywood is moisture resistant plywood. It is otherwise called commercial plywood. Keep in mind that ‘moisture resistant’ does not signify ‘waterproof’. MR grade plywood is an interior grade of plywood in this way it is reasonable for indoor use, not for outside. It very well may be utilized in cupboards, kitchen racks, closets, TV tables etc.
2. Boiling Water Resistant (BWR) Grade Plywood
It is semi-waterproof plywood. It’s an exterior grade waterproof plywood, that is superior to MR grade plywood. It is generally utilized for making home and office furniture. It is widely used in modular kitchen. It’s costlier than MR grade Ply.
3. Boiling Water Proof (BWP) Grade Plywood
BWP plywood is better in durability and quality than both MR and BWR grades of plywood. They can withstand prolonged exposure to water and moisture.
